This patient, a very busy local Southfield physician, came to our office with complaints of broken teeth, pain, and a smile that needed improvement. Years of medical school and long hours at work, an otherwise busy and active lifestyle, had caught up with her. As with all of our patients, our primary goal is to provide a stable, pain free, healthy mouth. In this particular case as with all of our patients who have active lifestyles or are busy executives, appointment scheduling was critical. Special early morning appointments with extended treatment sessions were employed to "fit" the patient's schedule. The patient was provided all of the dental procedures outlined below by Dr. Halmaghi. The patient did not have the interest nor available time to be referred to other dentistry specialists. Periodontics, endodontics, periodontitis treatment, oral surgery and laser gum therapy were provided (the versatility of Dr. Halmaghi's procedural repertoire typically eliminates the need for visiting other specialists). After treating her periodontal condition (gum disease), we performed multiple root canals and crowns on her back teeth in order to provide stability and function. We try not to start cosmetic treatment until the entire mouth is stable, so that the cosmetic work lasts a lifetime. Soon after, we proceeded with a makeover of her front teeth. This was done by "lifting" the gums up with laser surgery, followed by placement of four precision porcelain crowns on her front teeth. Her side teeth were reshaped to create a more pleasing, broader smile, part of the aesthetic dental outcome that was being sought by the patient. The "smile lift" was necessary because she had a very gummy smile and showed too much of her gums and teeth. As you can see, a more pleasing smile was achieved through the gum lift surgery and the porcelain crowns. Next year, we will be placing cosmetic crowns on her remaining upper back teeth in order to create an even wider smile and improve her muscular function (dental occlusion-bite).
